Jessica Jordan, Manhattan Beach Creamery’s head ice cream-ologist, loves bacon. She loves it so much that about seven months ago, she created a maple bacon ice cream flavor to join the cast of about 24 other flavors made from scratch at the creamery every day.
She and her team swirl up about 15 batches – four gallons of ice cream each – every day. “I search high and low for the best ingredients – the best strawberries, the best fresh fruit puree, the best caramel, even the best chocolate,” Jordan said.
While most of the flavors are there to stay, Jordan will whip up the occasional seasonal recipe. Recently, she created Crunchy Munchy, a vanilla-based ice cream with chocolate-covered Ruffles and a marshmallow and chocolate swirl. “Every day, the ideas for flavors are endless,” Jordan said. “But people want to come here knowing they can get the same flavors every time.”
